Dette todelte finn du att i det meste av livet til Rotevatn fram til no. På den eine sida har han ein bygdeoppvekst på Nordfjordeid, og på den andre over 10 år som kunstnar i Oslo. Spellemannsnominert for djupdykk i avantgardistisk musikk for stort jazzensemble, men òg samarbeid med popmusikarar som Cezinando og Gabrielle. Tekstleg inspirert av fortida, gjennom Håvamål, Ivar Aasen og Bibelen, men samstundes inspirert av moderne lydar frå synthar og trommemaskiner.

Og ein plass i midten, i symbiosa der fins Andreas sitt debut album «Av daude gror». Guilty pleasure for dei som vanlegvis ikkje lyttar til popmusikk, eller acquired taste for den gjengse musikklyttar. Med seg i studio fekk han nokre av sine favorittmusikarar og produsentar: Sofie Tollefsbøl (Fieh), Nikolai Hængsle, Hans-Peter Lindstrøm og Eivind Helgerød. Ingrediensane han hadde lyst til å putte i si musikalske betasuppe, skulle få dukke opp som dei ville og når dei ville, utan kognitive sperrer.

Andreas hentar inspirasjon frå fortida, for å kome seg vidare inn i si eiga framtid. Når livets store spørsmål bankar på, får ein kjenne på tankane kring slekters gang, kvar ein skal fengje sin heim, og om det er sant at det av daude gror. So kva type musikk dette er, får vere opp til publikum å meine noko om. For Andreas Rotevatn er det ikkje noko anna enn det sannferdige som dukka opp då han opna sine kunstneriske sluser

King of the party or a bright light, for the club or for church, alternative pop or approachable jazz? Trombonist, composer and artist Andreas Rotevatn gives you everything and more at Vill Vill Vest 2024! The element of duality has been present in Rotevatn’s life up until this point. He grew up in the village of Nordfjordeid, but has spent the last 10 years pursuing music in Oslo. He has been nominated for a Norwegian Grammy for his exploration of avant garde music for jazz ensembles and has also collaborated with popstars like Cezinando and Gabrielle. Lyrically he is inspired by both classic Norwegian literature and the Bible, whereas the sonic inspirations are modern day synths and drum machines.

Somewhere in the middle, in the symbiosis of it all, appears Andreas’ debut album “Av daude gror”. It is guilty pleasure music for the snobs and an acquired taste for the average listener. In the studio he invited some of his own favorite musicians and producers: Sofie Tollefsbøl (Fieh), Nikolai Hængsle, Hans-Petter Lindstrøm and Eivind Helgerød. The recipe for his musical stew was free-flowing and without cognitive blocks, the ingredients materialising when and how they wanted. Andreas uses inspiration from the past to move forward into his own future. When the big questions come a-knocking, they tend to bring forth reflections of heritage, home, and if there is truth in the saying that from the dead new life grows.

As to what kind of music this is, that is up to the audience to decide for themselves. For Andreas Rotevatn, this isn’t anything else than the truth that came flowing in when he finally opened his inner artistic floodgates.
