To You They Are Birds, To Me They Are Voices in the Forest er et nytt prosjekt fra Daiyen Jone Castro og Knut Jonas Sellevold. Duoen utforsker improviserte, imaginære
landskaper i grenselandet mellom lyd, musikk og natur.
Prosjektet ble til rundt en delt interesse for naturlige lydlandskaper, feltopptak, og fourth world-musikken til artister som Jon Hassell og Roberto Musci.

Navnet er mer enn et bandnavn, og peker mot et åpent konsept– en kontinuerlig prosess hvor natur, mennesker og musikk befinner seg i et konstant, improvisert samspill. Duoen bruker feltopptak som loopes og kombineres med elektronisk manipulasjon av live-elementer som fløyte, stemme og perkusjon. Kanskje det er etnografisk musikk i ordets rette forstand – musikk som et hverdagsrituale som vever usynlige forbindelser mellom mennesker og natur.

Konserten med Daiyen og Knut Jonas presenteres sammen med våre venner i EKKO.

To You They Are Birds, To Me They Are Voices in the Forest is a new project from musicians Daiyen Jone Castro and Knut Jonas Sellevold. The pair explores improvised, imaginary landscapes on the fringes of sound, music and nature itself. The project came about through a shared interest in natural soundscapes, field recordings, and the fourth world music from artists like Jon Hassell and Roberto Musci.

The name connotes more than just a band, and points us towards a more open concept – a continuous process where nature, people and music exist in constant, improvised interaction. In this world looped field recordings intermingle with electronic manipulation of live elements like flutes, voices and percussison. This may be ethnographic music in the literary sense – music as an everyday ritual weaving together invisible connections between humans and nature.
